Stabbing at Canadian Sikh Temple
The Prime Minister of Canada has condemned an attack at a Sikh temple in Edmonton, describing the incident as an act of terror.
Early this morning (August 22), a man carried out a violent stabbing attack at a Sikh temple in Edmonton while prayers were underway. The incident sparked panic, causing people to flee the scene in fear. A 75-year-old senior citizen and a 51-year-old man were injured in the attack and have been hospitalized for treatment.
Doctors have reported that their condition is stable. Police stated that one person has been arrested in connection with the incident. Investigations revealed that the 27-year-old suspect has a history of charges related to violent assaults dating back to 2015. Police are examining various angles to determine the motive behind the attack.
The Canada-based ‘World Sikh Organization’ has expressed deep concern over the attack, noting that it occurred against a backdrop of rising hateful sentiment toward Sikhs across the country. Condemning the attack on the Sikh temple, the Prime Minister labeled it an act of terror.
In a statement, he said: “The attack at the Sikh temple in Edmonton this morning was horrific. No one should feel unsafe in their place of worship due to such a heinous act. I thank the Edmonton police for the swift arrest of the attacker.”
