Bihar Minister’s Bizarre Remark

Janata Dal (United) Minister Shravan Kumar addressed the media after sugar prices in Bihar crossed ₹65 per kilogram. He stated, “People have reduced their sugar consumption due to the rising prevalence of diabetes in the state. Therefore, a price hike will not have a major impact on them.”

The BJP and Janata Dal (United) alliance government is currently in power in Bihar. Sugar prices in the state have risen from ₹50 to ₹65 per kilogram, severely affecting tea stalls, bakeries, and restaurants. Opposition parties have demanded an inquiry into the reasons behind this price hike.

Amidst this, Bihar’s Information and Public Relations Minister Shravan Kumar said at a press conference yesterday:

“Everyone in the country is suffering from diabetes. Who eats sweets these days?

People have cut down on sugar consumption. So, I don’t think a rise in sugar prices will have any significant impact. There is no cause for concern regarding this.”

That is what he said.
