Rahul Gandhi: On the backfoot on agricultural laws, the Modi government gave a booster dose of elections to Rahul Gandhi? Priyanka writes to PM – farm laws withdrawn decision by pm modi gives power booster to rahul gandhi politics ahead of vidhansabha chunav
- Government on the back foot with the announcement of withdrawal of agricultural law, booster dose to Rahul-Priyanka’s politics
- Priyanka hits out at PM before addressing DGP conference in Lucknow
- Priyanka said that if the intention is really clear about the farmers, then do not share the stage with Teni.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of the withdrawal of agricultural laws was reminiscent of 2015 when the government came on the back foot in front of farmers. With this, the politics of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also got a power booster before the assembly elections to be held in five states. This move of the Modi government has strengthened Rahul’s argument that the opposition needs to surround the government by raising issues. At the same time, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has once again attacked PM Modi regarding the farmer issue.
Priyanka has targeted before addressing the Prime Minister’s DGP conference in Lucknow. Priyanka said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi, you will discuss with the higher officials handling law and order in the DGP conference to be held in Lucknow today. Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni is still holding his post in your cabinet, sack him.
‘If the intention is clear, don’t share the stage with Teni’
Priyanka further said, ‘PM Modi should not attend the DGP and IG conference in Lucknow. I have also written a letter to him in this regard. If your intention towards the farmers of the country is clear, then do not sit on the stage with your Union Minister of State for Home today. Withdraw the cases filed against farmers across the country and give financial grants to the families of the farmers who have died.
Why did the central government withdraw the agricultural law, understand all the mathematics
Rahul Gandhi took the lead from the beginning
As soon as the agricultural laws were passed in Parliament in 2020, Rahul Gandhi started leading the protests without the outright support of other opposition parties. Rahul Gandhi had taken a stand alone against the Modi government even when the Land Acquisition Amendment Act was brought in 2015. Whereas other like-minded parties came forward to support the movement only after much deliberation. Both laws led to a massive opposition movement and eventually the government had to bow down.
What was the Land Acquisition Act?
This happened shortly after Modi Sarkar 1.0 was sworn in. The Land Acquisition Ordinance 2013 was enacted by the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government in the last days of its tenure. But in the year 2014, shortly after coming to power, the Modi government brought a new land acquisition ordinance, which was fiercely opposed across the country.
Why was there opposition to the law?
The Modi government had said that through this amendment, people would get fair compensation and transparency would also come in the process of acquisition. Through this, the provision of consent of farmers to simplify land acquisition was abolished, whereas the 2013 Act had a provision that any land can be acquired only if at least 70 percent of the farmer owners give permission for it. The provision of consent of farmers was abolished in the new law. There was a huge protest in the Parliament regarding this and in the end the central government had to withdraw its step.
The stand of non-Congress parties will be known in the Parliament session
As for agricultural laws, the movement was woven by the farmers’ unions, which gave impetus to the efforts of Rahul and other opposition leaders. As recently as last month, plans for a nationwide protest against the laws – at a meeting called by Sonia Gandhi – failed to materialise. The stand of non-Congress and non-BJP parties on the return of agricultural laws will be clear only during the upcoming winter session in Parliament.
