Zinedine Zidane Step Down once again relinquished the post of coach of the Real Madrid Coach Resigns. Madrid’s team failed to win any title for the first time in more than a decade in a season that ended four days earlier. Zidan, the former captain of France’s World Cup winning team, had an ongoing agreement with Real Madrid until June 2022, but he left the post shortly before that. The club said on Thursday that the former French footballer is stepping down. The club said that Zidan has decided to end his current tenure as Madrid coach.
“We must now honor his decision and thank him for his professionalism, commitment and passion over the years,” the club said in a statement. The club said, ‘Zidan is the great star of Real Madrid and his legacy is more than what he has achieved as a player and coach in our club’. According to the statement, “He knows that he has a place in the heart of the fans of Real Madrid and Real Madrid will always be his home.”
Won 3 Champions League titles in first term
Zidan first left the club when the team performed brilliantly, winning three consecutive Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018. During Zidan’s two-year and five-month first stint as coach, Madrid won a total of nine titles including two Club World Cups, two Uefa Super Cups, a Spanish League and a Spanish Super Cup title.
The second term faded
However, in Zidan’s second term, the team once won a league title and a Spanish Super Cup title. Zidan stepped down for the first time in less than a week after earning Madrid a third consecutive Champions League title. He then said that the time has come for change and he does not see the club winning while in charge of them.
Worst session in 11 years
Zidan’s second term as a coach began in March 2019, less than a year after he stepped down. The team was in trouble after a very poor season. During this time, the team had to face defeat against arch-rival Barcelona and lost out to Ayaks in the pre-quarter finals of the Champions League. Zidan’s second term, however, ended with Madrid’s worst season since 2009-10. The team could not win any title that season.
Such a poor performance
Madrid’s team fought hard for the Spanish League title until the final round but eventually trailed City’s rival Atlético Madrid by two points and failed to defend their title. The team had a chance to win two consecutive La Liga titles for the first time since 2007-08. The team reached the semi-finals in the Champions League where they lost against Chelsea. Madrid’s performance in the Copa del Rey was extremely poor and the team lost in the Round of 32 against third division club Alcoyano.
