Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expanded his cabinet on Sunday, just 5 months before the assembly elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh next year. Under this, seven ministers including Jitin Prasad were administered the oath of office and secrecy. Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office to Jitin Prasad, Paltu Ram, Dharamveer Prajapati, Chhatrapal Gangwar, Sangeeta Balwant, Sanjeev Gond and Dinesh Khatik in a simple ceremony held at Gandhi Auditorium of Raj Bhavan. Prasad has been given the post of cabinet minister while others have been given the post of minister of state. Altogether one Brahmin, two Dalit, one ST and three OBC leaders have been included in the cabinet.
Jitin Prasad, who was the Union Minister of State for Human Resources, recently left the Congress and joined the BJP. He was supposed to be given a ministerial post in the Yogi cabinet. The expansion of the state cabinet has been done at a time when there are hardly 5 months left for the state assembly elections. Before this cabinet expansion, the state government had 23 cabinet ministers including the chief minister, nine ministers of state with independent charge and 21 ministers of state. The number of members in the UP Legislative Assembly is 403, so 60 ministers can be made according to the rules, but before the expansion of the cabinet, there were only 53 ministers and seven posts were vacant which were filled today.
Jitin Prasad was considered close to Rahul Gandhi.
Jitin Prasada, who was once considered to be the closest leader of Rahul Gandhi, turned BJP in the past. Now he has got a place in the Yogi cabinet. Jitin Prasad is originally from Shahjahanpur. Jitin’s father Jitendra Prasad was a senior Congress leader and was also a four-time MP from Shahjahanpur Lok Sabha seat. Jitendra Prasad held many important positions in the party. His last election was the 1999 Lok Sabha election. The very next year, he launched a rebellion against the party leadership. Jitendra Prasad opposed Sonia Gandhi becoming the party president continuously. Jitendra Prasad was very senior to Sonia Gandhi in the party as a worker. He contested for the post of Congress President against Sonia Gandhi, but lost. He died a few months later in January 2001.
MLC was made, now Dharamveer Prajapati became minister
Dharamveer Prajapati is a resident of Agra. He and his family have been associated with the Sangh. He himself has been a volunteer in the RSS. He joined BJP from RSS. For the first time in 2002, BJP gave him the responsibility, he was made the State General Secretary in the Backward Classes Cell. He was also a minister in the Uttar Pradesh organization twice. In January 2019, he was made the chairman of Mati Kala Board. He was made MLC by BJP in the past.

Sangeeta Balwant comes from Bind society
Sangeeta Balwant Bind is the MLA from Sadar seat of Ghazipur district. She comes from the backward caste Bind society. Sangeeta, who was elected MLA for the first time, came into active politics from student politics and panchayat politics. Sangeeta is a youth leader and is around 42 years old.
Dharamveer Prajapati has held many important positions
Dharamveer Prajapati is a member of the Legislative Council. He became a member of the Legislative Council in January 2021. Prajapati, who hails from western UP, comes from OBC society. Presently he is the chairman of Mati Kala Board. He has held many important positions in the state BJP.
Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar has been an RSS campaigner
Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar is an MLA from Bahedi assembly seat in Bareilly district. He was elected MLA for the second time in 2017. Gangwar is OBC and comes from Kurmi community. He is a senior BJP leader and is around 65 years old. He is in RSS since 1980 and has been a pracharak.
Apart from politics, he also does farming.
Paltu Ram, who joined the Yogi cabinet, is an MLA from Balrampur Sadar seat. In 2017, he was elected MLA for the first time. Paltu Ram, who comes from Dalit caste (Khatik), did not inherit politics, but he has struggled a lot for it. In 2000, he was elected as a member of the Bhadua Tahar region and the Deputy President of the Zilla Panchayat. Apart from politics, Paltu Ram also does farming. He is famous among the public as a simple living and grounded leader.
Sanjeev Gond has a good hold among the tribals
Tribal MLA Sanjeev Gond, who has a good hold among the tribals in his area, has been made a minister in the UP government. Sanjeev Kumar Gond, MLA from Obra assembly seat, has been an MLA from Jana Sangh in 1978. In the then Janata Dal coalition government, Sanjeev Gond has also got the responsibility of the Ministry of Industries. Raghunath Prasad, the grandfather of MLA Sanjeev, who lives in Obra Cat village, has been the head for 35 consecutive years.
