US Virginia Professor Who Wrote About Adults Attracted to Minors Resigns
A university professor in the US state of Virginia has said that he has been receiving threats over his recently published book and will resign as a result. The book contains interviews with over 40 adults who were sexually attracted to minors. The author says that his point of view has been taken in a wrong way.
The book argues that stigmatizing this ‘attraction’ towards children will allow more people to develop coping strategies against crime and ultimately prevent child sexual abuse. “That research has been misconstrued by some in the media and online, based on my trans identity,” Old Dominion University professor Elin Walker said in a statement. As a result I was given many threats.
Walker’s book, A Long, Dark Shadow, Minor-Attached People and Their Pursuit of Dignity, by Walker, an assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice, describes her experience as a social worker who counseled victims of sexual assault Was. Some of them also had children. He wrote, ‘I am concerned that my readers may perceive that I am downplaying sexual harassment against children or that I am trying to normalize it.’
