US closes Trump-era office for victims of refugee crime

San Diego, Jun 12 (AP) The Joe Biden administration said Friday it has closed a Trump-era government office that was opened to help victims of crimes committed by refugees. The move signals President Joe Biden’s dismissal of former President Donald Trump’s continued efforts to link immigrants or refugees to crime.

Trump installed Immigration Crime Victims Office-Voice through an executive order in the first week of his term in January 2017.

US Immigrant and Customs Enforcement said it was launching a “more comprehensive and inclusive victim support system” to replace Voice.

Voice will be replaced by a ‘Victims Work and Services Line’ office that will incorporate long-standing services including ways to report abuse in refugee detention centers and a notification system for lawyers and others with vested interests in immigration matters. Will be
