Under the Mitra scheme, the textile secretary will select the states from ‘competition’
The scheme was announced in the budget 2021-22. Textiles Secretary UP Singh said that the approval for this scheme is in advance stage.
“We are hopeful that we will get the Cabinet’s approval on the Mitra scheme in the next 15 days,” he told PTI.
He said that many states are in race for this scheme. Many states want to set up three or four parks in their own right. That is why we have decided to select the states through ‘competition’.
Singh said that apart from 1,000 acres of land for these parks, the ministry is focusing on some more important things. This includes availability of raw material, availability of all types of infrastructure like… port, road and rail connectivity besides availability of electricity and water.
The secretary said that the states will have to apply for this scheme. We will issue Expression of Interest (EOI). We will ask for the documents as per the format and after that assessment will be done.
He said that a portal would also be prepared for this.
Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal had recently said, “We want competition among states to get business opportunities. We will see such competition in Mitra scheme as well. We have to finalize six-seven textile parks. For this, the states will have to make a commitment on land, labor laws, infrastructure and attractive electricity rates.
