The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against former National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Jalaj Srivastava for allegedly providing CDR to Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Sansar Chand, who is facing corruption charges. has done. The CBI has also named Chand’s wife Avinash Kaur as an accused in the chargesheet filed before the special court, officials said. The CBI has charged criminal conspiracy (120B) and criminal breach of trust (409) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
He told that Srivastava was the neighbor of Chand and Avinash Kaur when they lived in Andrews Ganj area of South Delhi. During his deployment in the NIA, Srivastava had reportedly helped him by providing him with a ‘Call Detail Record’ (CDR). The then GST Commissioner Sansar Chand was posted in Kanpur at that time. Chand and his wife were arrested by the CBI in 2018 for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from a Kanpur-based businessman in a corruption case.
He said that the couple had sought help from Srivastava to get the CDR of the number of a person allegedly named Sudesh Soni after the case was registered. The Special Cell of the CBI was monitoring the activities of the couple and it was they who came to know about the phone conversation between Avinash Kaur and Srivastava and informed the NIA.
Officials said during the NIA’s internal probe it was found that Srivastava had allegedly sought all the records of three numbers between 2017 and 2018 saying that the agency needed it to investigate a case. He had allegedly asked an IPS officer’s employee to e-mail him a CDR citing investigation in a case. Investigation revealed that he was successful in getting the CDRs of two numbers, which he had allegedly sent to Avinash Kaur.
Srivastava has been transferred to his parent cadre Border Security Force. After receiving the investigation report, the CBI had sought approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs to register a case against Srivastava, only after which it initiated action.
