Areas with large populations are being hit hardest against COVID-19 as the highly contagious delta version of the coronavirus continues to spread across the US
Data from USAFacts shows that there are five states where less than 50% of the total population has received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of September 15. The data also shows that 29 states have a fully immunized population of 50%. or more.
These are the five states with the lowest partial vaccination rates in the country:
Cases have been rising since the beginning of July, although the average number of cases across the country in the first two weeks of September declined slightly for the first time since the start of summer. These infections are largely attributed to the spread of the delta variant. States that have vaccination rates lower than the national average often have high COVID-19 case rates.
County-level data shows that vaccination rates can vary greatly within states. Daily updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide a look at full and partial vaccination rates at the county level.
About 64% of people in the US have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, and more than half the population is fully vaccinated.
