‘The pace of adoption of new technology in India is much slower than in countries like America, Australia’

New Delhi, 27 May (Language) India has a slower pace of adoption of new technology than countries like the US and Australia and needs to invest in research and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the mining sector. A top official said this on Thursday.

M Nagaraju, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Coal, said that the use of AI and Internet of Things (IoT) capacity in industries like mining in the country would be of great benefit.

He said that this would cut costs, increase productivity, improve quality and make the system effective.

Nagaraju said, “Actually the pace of adopting new technologies in India is much slower than in Australia, Canada or America.”

He also said, “We are far behind, perhaps because of our past history or lack of investment in this sector. We are still far behind. There is a need to focus and invest in technologies in the mining industry.”

The Internet of Things is a system of interconnected computing devices, mechanical and digital machines that contain specific identifiers. It can transfer data between humans or on a network without the need for human-to-computer connectivity.
