Taliban militants have erupted after warnings about bloody violence in Panjshir, Iran, and they have warned Tehran not to interfere. Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen said that Panjshir is our internal matter and it will be resolved. We wanted to resolve it through talks but we could not reach a conclusion, so military action was taken as the last option which has now been completed.

Suhail Shaheen said in an interview to CNN News 18, ‘Panjshir is our internal matter because the Afghan people love freedom. We want no country to interfere in our internal affairs. On the increasing role of Pakistan in Afghanistan, Shaheen claimed, ‘No country has any role. We have relations with neighboring countries and regional countries. So we are looking for cooperation in the reconstruction of Afghanistan but that does not mean that they interfere in our internal affairs. This is not our policy. Our policy is clear. Our issues will be resolved.

Shaheen also said that the current Afghan government is only for a short time and it has been created keeping in mind the need of essential services. Earlier, Iran had reacted sharply to allegations of bloody violence by the Taliban and Pakistan in the Panjshir Valley, a stronghold of the insurgents led by Ahmed Masood. Iran’s Foreign Ministry had given a stern warning to the Taliban not to cross the Lakshman Rekha. Iran also said it was investigating Pakistan’s interference in Panjshir.

Iran said the “martyrdom” of Panjshir’s commanders was “very disappointing” and condemned last night’s attacks in the strongest terms. The Tehran Times quoted Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Syed Khatib Zadeh as saying, “Pakistani interference during the Panjshir attack is being investigated.” Iran believes that intra-Afghan dialogue is the only solution to the Afghan problem. He warned, ‘I strongly caution that not all cross the Lakshman Rekha and that the responsibilities under international law must be considered.’
