The Uttar Pradesh government has sought the direction of the Supreme Court to proceed with the investigation in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. State government’s lawyer Harish Salve told the Supreme Court that the court can do whatever order it wants to pass in this matter. He said, ‘We have taken instructions from the government. The court may pass such order as it thinks fit. The Supreme Court has said to give its verdict in this matter on Wednesday.
In the last hearing, the Supreme Court had suggested that the UP government get a retired high court judge of another state to monitor the investigation. When senior advocate Salve said that he has taken instructions from the UP government, the Chief Justice said that we will take a day’s time. The judge said, ‘Justice Rakesh Jain or someone else will see. The second issue is of the SIT member.
During the hearing, Chief Justice of Supreme Court NV Ramana said that you did not give his name. Then Justice Suryakant, who was included in the bench, said that most of the deceased are from Lakhimpur Kheri. The Supreme Court has said that you suggest the name of an IPS officer who is of UP cadre but not UP based. The Supreme Court said, ‘You name it till tomorrow, we will hear it on Wednesday and will pass the order on the same day.’
