sreesanth interview on spot fixing

New Delhi
Former India pacer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth finally broke his silence on the 2013 spot-fixing scandal. This incident of IPL had put cricket to shame. Apart from Sreesanth, the names of Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandela were also involved in spot-fixing. All these three players were part of Rajasthan Royals.

In an interview to Sportskeeda, Sreesanth said, ‘This is the first interview in which I am sharing or telling about something. That being said, I had to give 14 runs in an over. I gave 5 runs in 4 balls. There was no no-ball, no wide, no slow ball. I was throwing the ball at a speed of 130 even after 12 surgeries on my paw.

He further said, ‘I had played the Irani Trophy and I was ready for the South Africa series so that we can win it in September 2013. We were leaving a little early. The ball shakes well there in September. My aim was to play that series. Such a person, why would I do this, and that too for only Rs 10 lakh? I am not talking big but when I parted, I had a bill of Rs 2 lakh outstanding.

Sreesanth said that he used to make most of his personal payments by card and not cash. He further said that it was the prayers of his well-wishers that got him out of this trouble.

He further said, ‘I used to pay by card and not cash. If I had that much cash, I would be blowing it. Actually, I used to take care of this common man as well. In my life I have only believed in helping and giving. I have helped many people and those same prayers have helped me come out of this. Why would I waste all this for five runs off just two balls. No way.’
