SpiceJet introduces interim fixed pay system, some pilots say pay cut will continue

Mumbai/New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) Affordable airline SpiceJet on Sunday said it has introduced a new “interim fixed pay system” for captains and co-pilots.

SpiceJet had implemented an hourly pay system for pilots during the pandemic.

The airline said that under the new pay structure, not only will there be a substantial increase in the salary of the pilot, but overtime will also be paid to those who fly more than the stipulated minimum hours.

Some pilots, however, opposed the assurance given by SpiceJet and claimed that they were facing stress due to continuous cut in salaries.

The pilots claimed that they were being paid only one-third or half of their pre-Covid-19 salaries.

A SpiceJet spokesperson told PTI, “Many other airlines and organizations sacked employees’ contracts during the pandemic, but there were no layoffs in SpiceJet.”

He said that due to the second wave of the Kovid-19 epidemic, there was a delay in the restoration of the normal wage structure.
