The Central Government has informed the Parliament that not a single Rs 2,000 note has been printed in the last two years. Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur has clarified in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha that no Rs 2,000 note has been printed in the country since April 2019. The central government had decided to stop printing of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and print Rs 2,000 notes. After that new notes of five hundred rupees were printed. But in the last two years, Rs 2,000 notes have not been printed. On the advice of the Reserve Bank, the Central Government decides on the value of the notes to be printed. Considering the exchange and demand from the people, the decision of which note to print is made.
