The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the Bombay High Court’s order to re-conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for two candidates. After this order of the top court, the way has been cleared for the declaration of the result of NEET. More than 16 lakh students participated in it. The National Testing Agency (NTA) had moved the apex court alleging that the results were being delayed due to the High Court order.
Can’t withhold results of 16 lakh students
A bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao said that we cannot withhold the results of 16 lakh students. The bench told the counsel for the petitioner, that we will decide what will happen to both the students when they reopen (after Diwali vacation). Meanwhile, we issue notices and file a counter. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, has said that whatever confusion there is, it will be corrected.
Challenging Bombay High Court’s order to conduct NEET again
The bench told the counsel for the petitioner that you are talking about your clients but not considering the lakhs of students who are waiting for the results. In its petition, the NTA had challenged the Bombay High Court’s order to conduct NEET again for two candidates from Solapur. He had alleged that his test booklet and OMR sheet got mixed up at the examination center before the commencement of the examination.
