- Star campaigner stayed away from the assembly by-election campaign
- BJP’s factionalism came to the fore again
- There is a by-election in Vallabh Nagar and Dhariyavad assembly
- Five prominent star campaigners of BJP kept distance from election campaign
- State President Dr. Satish Poonia cites personal reasons
By election in Rajasthan : In the 2023 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party of the state, which was divided over the CM face, could not show unity in the Vallabhnagar and Dhariyavad by-elections. The hallmark of this has been seen in the BJP by-election campaign. In fact, 5 prominent star campaigners of BJP did not reach for campaigning in this by-election. These include former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Union Ministers Bhupendra Yadav, Kailash Choudhary and Rajya Sabha MP Om Prakash Mathur. On this issue, BJP state president Dr. Satish Poonia said that the leaders were called due to public demand and the need of the workers, the leaders who did not come had personal reasons. But it is not digested in the political corridor.
Big challenge for both parties
Significantly, the noise of campaigning in the Vallabhnagar and Dhariyavad assembly by-elections has now stopped. Simultaneously, polling will be held in both these places on 30 October and counting of votes will be done on 2 November. For the ruling Congress to retain its hold on the Vallabhnagar seat in this by-election, it remains a question of prestige for the BJP in Dhariyavad.
Rajput candidate, yet Raje did not campaign
If we talk about former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who headed the BJP government in Rajasthan twice, she had made her intentions clear while talking to the media in Jodhpur. Raje had said that it is necessary to get the love of 36 communities, in such a situation, despite being the BJP’s Rajput candidate in Vallabhnagar, his not coming in the election campaign could be a loss deal for the BJP.
This is believed to be the reason
In fact, Vasundhara Raje from Vallabhnagar was in favor of giving BJP ticket to Randhir Singh Bhinder of Janata Sena or his wife. So his candidate of choice in Dhariyavad was Kanhaiyalal Meena, son of late MLA Gautam Lal Meena. By not giving tickets to these two candidates, Vasundhara Raje kept her distance from campaigning on the grounds of illness of her daughter-in-law. But experts are saying that Vasundhara Raje has become active once again in view of the elections. In such a situation, keeping his distance from the election campaign is leaving many questions. However, regarding the star campaigners who did not reach, Satish Poonia has said that some leaders could not come in the campaign due to personal reasons.
Raje was missing even from Sahara by-election
The great thing is also that Gangapur town and its surrounding villages were part of Gwalior State before independence in the Sahara assembly by-election. But even then Vasundhara Raje did not come for election campaign. However, his nephew Jyotiraditya Scindia, who joined BJP from Congress, must have reached Gangapur to address the general meeting in support of BJP candidate Dr. Ratan Lal Jat. But they did not affect the voters there and the BJP was badly defeated in Sahada. Those who know politics believe that due to the elections being held under the leadership of BJP state president Satish Poonia, the Vasundhara Raje faction should keep their distance from these two by-elections because the responsibility of winning the defeat lies with the state president.
Bhupendra Yadav limited to Ajmer- Alwar
Here Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav has considered it appropriate to keep himself till Ajmer, his place of work, in the present circumstances. Along with this, perhaps it is the thinking of the Union Minister that by keeping himself confined to the Yadav dominated area Alwar, he should keep himself separate from the factional politics of the state in the BJP. The Yadavs were confined to Alwar and Ajmer even in the Jan Aashiwad Yatra.
Many big leaders including Om Mathur do not want to be stamped!
Rajya Sabha MP Om Prakash Mathur, Union Minister Kailash Choudhary and former BJP state president Arun Chaturvedi also appeared to refrain from labeling themselves either Dr Satish Poonia and Vasundhara Raje faction. He did not have to suffer any loss in future politics, so he kept distance in both the assembly by-elections. Experts say that the BJP should suffer, because the result of these two by-elections is neither going to put the crown of victory on their heads nor the blame of defeat is going to be broken. Therefore, despite being included in the list of star campaigners, these people have refrained from participating in the party campaign in both the by-elections.
State in-charge Arun Singh put full emphasis
According to sources, most of the BJP’s 20 star campaigners have understood the gravity of the situation as they kept their distance from the election campaign. The BJP leadership had made a fresh political churn and fielded the in-charge of Rajasthan, Arun Singh, in the election field for the last 3 days. But what will be its effect, now it will be clear only from the counting of votes on November 2. After the announcement of the election results, Arun Singh, in-charge of Rajasthan, was able to control the damage caused by star campaigners not entering the electoral fray.
