Peru’s Employed Population Approaches Prepandemic Levels | News

The economically active population (EAP) employed in Peru in the second quarter of this year approached its pre-ndemic levels, and is among those that recovered the most in the Latin American region, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) said today.

The Peruvian employed EAP slowed its fall of 3.4% in the first quarter of this year compared to the similar period of 2019, to a contraction of 0.9% in the second quarter compared to its pre-ndemic level.

“This recovery responds mainly to the reopening of economic activities and the dynamism that some activities such as construction have been showing,” said the issuing entity.

Likewise, he mentioned that in the rest of the largest economies in the region, the fall in the employed population exceeded 5.9% in the second quarter compared to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019, except for Mexico, whose employed EAP grew 0.6% in the aforementioned period.
