Pempa Sering becomes the new Prime Minister of the exiled Tibetan government. Pempa Sering defeated his rival Kelsang Dorje by 5441 votes to take the post of exiled prime minister. Wangdu Sering Pesar, commissioner of the Election Commission of the Central Tibet Government, announced the election results online from Dharamshala. The Election Commissioner said that Pempa Sering received a total of 34348 votes out of 63991, while Kelsang Dorje got 28907 votes. 63991 voters had cast their votes in the last phase of voting. Around 80 thousand voters worldwide had registered for the vote.
Voting took place in 22 countries, including the United States, Australia, Britain, Russia and France, to form the exiled Tibetan government. Polling and counting centers were established in many countries around the world. The first phase of voting took place on 3 January 2021 in several countries around the world. The second phase of voting was held on 11 April. After this, now the election result has been officially announced after a gap of about one month. In the new government, 45 MPs have been democratically elected on behalf of the Tibetans. This will be the 17th elected parliament of the Tibet Government in exile.
Pempa Sering had held various positions in the exiled Tibet government for about 18 to 20 years. He has also been the Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in exile twice. In addition, he has served as a representative in the United States office of the Tibetan government in exile. Pempa Sering was born in the Refugee Settlement of the state of Karnataka. Pempa Sering is considered a great supporter and special for the religious leader Dalai Lama.
The Prime Minister used to choose the Dalai Lama first

Dr. Lobsang Sangye was the Prime Minister from 2011 to 2021. Now Pampa Sering becomes the third Prime Minister to be directly elected by election.

The Tibetan government in exile is headquartered in Dharamshala. It has not been given the direct name of the government. The Tibet government in exile has been given the official name Central Tibet Administration. The President of the Central Tibet Administration is called the Prime Minister. No country has recognized the exiled Tibetan government around the world. The Dharamshala also houses the Parliament of the Tibetan government-in-exile.
