p chidambaram on pegasus case probe: Saddened by ‘denial of many’ to join pegasus probe committee: Chidambaram

New Delhi
Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Thursday said he was upset that several people “politely” refused to be part of the Supreme Court-appointed committee to probe the Pegasus espionage case. “I am distressed that many have politely declined when requested to be part of the Supreme Court ordered committee to investigate the Pegasus case,” he tweeted.

The former Home Minister asked whether any honest citizen can turn down the request of the Supreme Court to serve in a matter of national interest. He said that this development shows how far people here have gone from Mahatma Gandhi’s statement that Indian citizens should not be afraid of their rulers.

In fact, the Supreme Court on Wednesday constituted a three-member committee of experts to probe allegations of alleged spying of some people in India through Israeli spyware ‘Pegasus’. The top court said it is necessary to protect every citizen from breach of privacy and the court cannot remain a “mute spectator” merely by pleading for “national security by the government”.
