npci proposes to use aadhaar linked technology to prevent financial crimes

New Delhi, Nov 24 (PTI) A top official of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Wednesday proposed the use of Aadhaar-linked technologies to detect financial crimes, including tax evasion.

NPCI Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dilip Asbe said such technology would be used in three-four years.

He said, “Tax evasion is a big issue in our country. Today with the interlinking of PAN and Aadhaar, when a customer has an account with multiple banks, Aadhaar is linked there. We look at data for suspicious cases. Why can’t you do a little more research to find out if there is tax evasion in the country?”

Asbe said multiple uses of Aadhaar are possible for the public good.

“I am sure it will be used in three-four years, but can we wait that long?” he said.

The official said that Aadhaar as a unique identity card has a lot of importance but it is still not fully exploited.
