New Zealand pacer Neil Wegner feels the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India is like a World Cup final for him. Wegner said that he has never played limited overs cricket for his country. The first WTC final will be played in Southampton from 18 to 22 June.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Wegner said, ‘Yes, it is like a World Cup final for me. The biggest disappointment in my career is that I have never been able to play limited overs cricket for New Zealand and have never been able to make it to the T20 or ODI team.

The 35-year-old said, ‘Now I have a chance and I don’t think such an opportunity will come again. For me, now I have to focus my attention and energy on Test cricket and playing in the final of the World Test Championship is like a World Cup for me.
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had said the same thing in March. According to him, the WTC final will be like a World Cup final for many players.
New Zealand are currently in England and preparing for a two-Test series against the hosts but Wegner is eyeing the WTC final.
“I know this is the first final and there is not much history attached to it but it is a very big start,” he said. Wagner said, “India is one of the best teams in the world right now and playing a Test match against them is a chance to test themselves at the top level.” It will be really exciting, but I want to take it like another Test match. This will be a really special occasion.’
