Need to request government for payment option through foreign cards on RTI portal: SBI – sbi needs to request government for payment option through foreign cards on rti portal
Under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the RTI online portal facilitates application filing, first appeal and fee payment.
In response to RTI query of Commodore Lokesh Batra (Retd), State Bank of India said that SBI Payment Gateway accepts transactions through foreign cards (Master/Visa cards) of international banks.
According to the bank’s reply on June 8, “The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India will have to request SBI for payment through foreign card on ITI online portal. After enabling the foreign card payment option, payment can be made using the foreign card.
Batra is currently in the US. He had sought information about the suitability/capability of the RTI online portal for Indian nationals (holding Indian passports)/NRIs residing abroad to facilitate RTI fee payment by foreign banks having payment gateways of State Bank of India. Issued Master/Visa cards can be used.
“There is no facility for Indians residing abroad to file RTI applications through RTI online portal by paying fees using cards of foreign banks. The government should ensure that this system already available with SBI becomes operational at the earliest.
Batra said that due to non-availability of payment option through cards of foreign banks on the RTI portal, Indian citizens/NRIs abroad are unable to exercise their right to access information.
The RTI Online Portal was launched in 2013 to facilitate online filing of RTI Application/First Appeal with payment gateway.
RTI fee can be paid through internet banking of SBI, Debit/Credit card of Master/Visa and Rupay card.
