mitchell marsh man of the match: mitchell marsh said thanks to selectors

Dubai
Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh thanked the country’s selectors for giving him an “excellent six weeks” in the T20 World Cup by sending him up the order. Marsh, who has often faced criticism for battling injuries, smashed an unbeaten 77 off 50 balls in an eight-wicket win against New Zealand on Sunday to help Australia win their maiden T20 World Cup title.

The 31-year-old Marsh, who scored 185 runs in six T20 World Cup matches at an average of over 61, said the selectors’ decision to send him to No. 3 proved right in the end.

Marsh said after the match, ‘About six months ago the coaching staff came to me and said that I will bat at number three in this tournament and series. I jumped with joy on hearing this.

“I played this role for Perth Scorchers at home but I would like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in the Australian team management for bringing me to the top of the batting order,” he said.

Marsh said, ‘I love playing my part in this team. I feel like many people talk like this but I don’t have words right now to express my feelings. What a wonderful six weeks with this team. I love him (team) with all my heart and we are world champions.

Marsh, who came to the crease after captain Aaron Finch was dismissed in the third over, added 92 runs with David Warner (53) and then shared an unbroken 66 off 39 balls with Glenn Maxwell (28 not out). With this, Australia achieved the target of 173 runs with seven balls to spare.
