Minister Cevallos confirms third dose against covid-19 for health personnel | News

First-line health personnel, older adults over 65 and people with comorbidities, will receive a third booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine, Health Minister Hernando Cevallos confirmed today.

In dialogue with RPP, the head of the sector explained that the third booster dose will be with Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, because there is international evidence of its efficiency in this application.

He specified that, even though Sinopharm It has given excellent results in Peru and the mortality rates of health personnel and the population that received this vaccine have decreased notably, there is still no evidence about its efficiency in the application of a third dose.

“Therefore, we believe that think about a third booster dose with Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, which can be applied in Peru to professionals on the front line of battle most exposed to viral load, adults over 65 years of age or with comorbidities ”.

The criteria for applying this booster dose it will depend exclusively on the availability of vaccines that is held in the country, he added.
