The attack happened around 10 am
Militants carried out the attack at Singhat in Churachandpur district of Manipur around 10 am. The militants had targeted Colonel Biplab Tripathi, the commanding officer of 46 Assam Rifles. There was a deadly attack on his convoy.
Colonel went out to inspect the check post
The incident took place when Colonel Biplab Tripathi had gone out to inspect the check post as usual. It was part of his routine, but on Saturday his family was also there. Wife Anuja and son Abir were also present in the car with him.
8 year old son also died
The militants first put the entire family to sleep by blasting and then firing bullets. IED explosives were used in the attack. Colonel’s 8-year-old innocent son Abir Tripathi also lost his life in the attack.
There were rebellions in the middle car of the convoy
There was a blast in the car going ahead in the convoy of the vehicles of Commanding Officer Colonel Biplab Tripathi. He himself was sitting with his family in the middle car. After the blast, the militants started firing bullets on both the remaining vehicles. Colonel Viplav, his wife and son died on the spot.
PLA and MNPF claimed responsibility for the attack
Militant organizations PLA and MNPF have claimed responsibility for the attack. These organizations say that they did not know that the colonel’s wife and child were also in that convoy. The Government of India has told that this is a disturbed area and the family – child should not be taken in it.
Army statement in Manipur attack
A press release issued by the Assam Rifles said, “The commanding officer and three personnel of the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) lost their lives in the attack by the militants (suspected PREPAK/PLA). The family of the commanding officer also died. Other injured personnel have been admitted to Bahianga health centre.
