Describing Parliament as a “temple of democracy”, President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday said it is the responsibility of every MP to conduct Parliament in the same spirit with which they do in their places of worship and places of worship. He said that differences should not be an obstacle in the way of the real objective of public service.

Addressing a program organized in the Central Hall of Parliament on Constitution Day, the President said that the elected representatives of the Gram Sabha, the Vidhan Sabha and the Parliament should have only one priority. He said that his priority is to work for the welfare of all the people of his area and in the national interest.

The President said that there may be differences of opinion, but no difference should be so great as to hinder the real purpose of public service.

Kovind said that it is natural to have competition between the members of the ruling party and the opposition, but this competition should be to become better representative and do better work for the welfare of the people and only then it will be considered as healthy competition.

The President said, ‘Competition in Parliament should not be confused with rivalry.’ He said, ‘We all believe that our Parliament is a ‘temple of democracy’. Therefore, it becomes the responsibility of every MP to conduct themselves in this temple of democracy with the same spirit of reverence with which they do in their houses of worship and places of worship.

President Kovind said that some scholars of the West used to say that the system of adult suffrage in India would fail, but this experiment was not only successful, but has been strengthened over time and even other democracies have done a lot more than this. has learned.

Kovind said, ‘Indian democracy’ can undoubtedly be regarded as one of the greatest achievements of human history, if we take into account the challenges faced by the nation at the time of our independence.

The President said that 72 years ago in this central hall, the framers of the Constitution had adopted the document of a bright future of independent India i.e. our Constitution and surrendered it to the people of India.

He said that in a short span of almost seven decades, the people of India have written such a wonderful saga of democratic development which has amazed the whole world. President Ram Nath Kovind also launched the portal of online quiz on democracy.

Constitution Day is celebrated on 26 November, because on this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution of India. Constitution Day was started from 2015. The Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950.
