India’s regular captain Virat Kohli and Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane were rested from the first-class warm-up match against County XI (Select County XI) starting Tuesday with minor injuries.
“Kohli felt some stiffness in his back late on Monday evening and has been advised rest by the BCCI medical team from the three-day first-class warm-up match,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a media release.
Rahane gets injection
Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has mild swelling around his left leg muscle. He has been given an injection. He was not available for the three-day first-class warm-up match. “However, he (Rahane) is being monitored by the BCCI medical team and it is expected that he will make a full recovery in time for the first Test against England starting on August 4 in Nottingham,” he added.
Avesh Khan also injured his thumb
Avesh’s injury dealt another setback to the Indian Test team. The bowler, representing the County XI of the ECB, has suffered a serious thumb injury. Avesh’s first spell was not good when Mayank Agarwal hit a boundary against him with ease. However, he bowled better in the second and third spells. In his third spell during the post-lunch session, Avesh Vihari injured his thumb while blocking a shot, he was seen moaning in pain and the Indian physio came to the ground with a thumb bandage.
