New Delhi, July 26 (PTI) Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Monday lauded the efforts of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). He said that these centers are working whole-heartedly to achieve the goal of doubling the income of the farmers.

Inaugurating the 28th Regional Workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) located in Madhya Pradesh, he said that the scientists of KVKs are benefiting the farmers through information communication techniques and proper techniques in collaboration with the Agriculture Department.

KVK is Krishi Vigyan Kendra which apart from providing vocational training to the farmers, provides them various information and assistance related to farming.

“KVKs are working with full zeal to achieve the goal of doubling farmers’ income,” an official statement quoted the minister as saying.

Presently the units of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and State Agricultural Universities are operating 723 KVKs.

Of these, seven are in Naxal-affected areas, he said.

On the contribution of KVK in increasing the crop yield, Tomar said that it is a matter of satisfaction that the productivity of pulses is being increased through KVK Complex Frontline Demonstration and Seed Center.

Productivity is being increased through water conservation by using high bed technology on about 35 lakh hectares out of 60 lakh hectares of soybean crop in the state.
