The opening of the Kartarpur Corridor led to the meeting of two friends separated from Partition. India’s Sardar Gopal Singh parted ways with his childhood friend, now 91-year-old Mohammad Bashir, in 1947. Seeing each other after such a long time, their eyes filled with tears and they hugged each other. At present Sardar Gopal Singh’s age is 94 years while Mohammad Bashir is 91 years old.

Sardar Gopal Singh went to visit India
According to the report of Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Sardar Gopal Singh had come to Pakistan to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib after the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor. Mohammad Bashir, a resident of Narowal, Pakistan, had also reached the Gurdwara. During this, when both of them saw each other, their face became familiar. After some interrogation, both of them recognized each other.

The occasion was so emotional that the Indian pilgrims and Pakistani nationals present at the spot got teary-eyed. Everyone also expressed happiness over the meeting of these two friends who were separated during Partition. Pilgrims arriving from India, Pakistan and other countries of the world congratulated these two friends. Both old friends also narrated tales of their childhood and youth.

Before partition, both the friends used to go to the Gurudwara together.
Gopal Singh said that both were youths when Pakistan was formed. Bashir said that even before partition, both the friends used to visit Baba Guru Nanak’s Gurudwara. These two friends had lunch together and drank tea. Gopal Singh expressed happiness over the project of Kartarpur Corridor and thanked the governments of both the countries for this.
