karnataka government bans decision to sell 3667 acres of land to jsw steel
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “The decision to sell land to JSW Steel in the last cabinet meeting has not been confirmed in today’s cabinet meeting, so the previous decision taken on this matter will remain pending.”
Talking to media persons after the cabinet meeting, he said here that after the stay on this decision of the cabinet, the decision taken in the last cabinet meeting will not be implemented.
Giving clarification, he said, “A lot of cases are in courts and appeals have been made in the Supreme Court too.” A PIL has also been filed in the High Court, on the basis of which several notices have also been issued. In view of this situation, a decision will be taken in this regard after a few days.
Earlier on 26 April, in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, the decision to sell 3,667 acres of land in Ballari district to JSW Steel was agreed. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, strongly opposed this decision of the former state government while in opposition.
It is noteworthy that the Congress-JDS coalition government had decided to sell 3,667 acres of land leased to JSW Steel in the year 2019. However, in view of internal and external opposition, the cabinet once again discussed the issue and decided to send it to the cabinet sub-committee.
