Justice rakesh kumar jain: Lakhimpur violence: Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain will supervise the SIT investigation, the next hearing in the Supreme Court only after the status report
The Supreme Court on Wednesday appointed former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Rakesh Kumar Jain to oversee the day-to-day investigation of the Uttar Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the violence that took place on October 3 in Lakhimpur Kheri.
A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hima Kohli also took note of the names of IPS officers given by the state government and included three IPS officers in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted for the investigation.
The Chief Justice said a detailed order in the matter would be passed later. The Supreme Court said it will hear the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case again after the Special Investigation Team completes its investigation and files a status report.
The Uttar Pradesh government had on November 15 agreed to its suggestion to have a former judge appointed by the choice of the Supreme Court to oversee the SIT probe into the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
