Ind vs Eng Manchester Test: ECB Wants Match To Be Replayed As Standalone Test, ICC To Be Involved – What will happen to Manchester Test? Dravid-Kumble’s role in the tussle between BCCI and ECB
- The fifth test was to be held in Manchester, canceled due to Kovid
- The England Cricket Board had earlier said – India left the claim on the match
- Then said that the match was cancelled, controversy over the result of the series
- The committee headed by Anil Kumble will take the final decision
The situation is becoming clear about the cancellation of the fifth Test between India and England. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have decided to reschedule matches next year. However, there is a tussle between the two boards over the status of that test and the final result of the series. If no consensus is reached, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will have to intervene.
ICC will intervene if ECB does not announce
The ECB has decided that the match will be played as a single Test. His result will not affect the result of the current series. India were ahead 2-1 after the Oval Test. If the ECB does not make an official announcement of India winning the series, then the ICC will have to intervene. The Indian board and players have repeatedly said that the match will not be ‘forfeited’. If this happens, India will have to share the series with England.

India had reached the top of the WTC table by winning the Oval
There is every possibility that the ICC will have to intervene and resolve the matter. Its cricket committee, headed by former India captain Anil Kumble, has been asked how to improve the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The second round of the WTC has started with the India-England series, the final will be in 2023. India had reached the top of the WTC table after the win at the Oval. After the cancellation of the fifth Test, the ICC will have to talk to the BCCI and ECB to find a solution.
ECB playing a different melody
ECB chief executive Tom Harrison said on Friday that the Test proposed by the BCCI in lieu of the canceled fifth Test will be a separate match outside the series. With this demand, the ECB has put this matter in the court of ICC. Harrison told Sky Sports, ‘I think it’s a different situation. We have been given some more options which will have to be looked at. He was asked whether it will be a separate match or will be the decider of the series.

IPL players start arriving in UAE
From Saturday morning, Indian cricketers have started reaching UAE to participate in the Indian Premier League. The second part of IPL will start from 19th September. The first match will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in Dubai. Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav have reached Abu Dhabi. From CSK, Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja are going to UAE from England. RCB captain Virat Kohli and pacer Mohammad Siraj also caught a chartered flight from Manchester to UAE.
All Indian players will be quarantined for 6 days in UAE. Chris Woakes and David Malan have withdrawn from the IPL for England. Jonny Bairstow will also not play IPL. There is no point in traveling if their teams are not in the race for the knockouts or they feel that they will not be in the playing 11.
India was ahead 2-1 in the series.
