Three died in incidents caused by heavy rains in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region. Rivers have come in spate in Rajkot and Jamnagar, people in low-lying areas are facing the problem of water logging. The administration has also issued a warning of heavy rain in Rajkot on Tuesday. NDRF and SDRF teams were deployed for rescue and relief operations. Air force helicopters were used to evacuate people in Jamnagar and Rajkot.

Rajkot Municipal Commissioner said, ‘In the last 24 hours, 13 inches of rain fell. There is also a warning of heavy rain for tomorrow (Tuesday). 1,400 people have been sent to shelter homes while over 300 people have been rescued. The rain water is receding.

Officials of the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) said that Lodhika taluka of Rajkot received 435 mm of rain in a period of 10 hours from 6 am on Monday, while Visavadar taluka of Junagadh received 364 mm, Kalavad of Jamnagar 348 mm, Rajkot taluka. 305 mm of rain was recorded in the state and Dhoraji in Rajkot recorded 202 mm of rain.

One died in Rajkot, two died in Jamnagar
A woman and two men were killed in separate incidents of car being swept away at Kalawar in Rajkot and Jam Jodhpur in Jamnagar district, officials said. The Municipal Commissioner of Rajkot has denied any loss of life. He said that several teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been sent to Rajkot, Junagadh and Jamnagar.

20 people were airlifted by helicopters
Jamnagar District Magistrate Saurabh Pardhi said that about 20 people were airlifted and 30 others were also rescued by Air Force helicopters from different villages of Jamnagar district. At the same time, Rajkot District Magistrate Arun Mahesh Babu said that Air Force helicopters are preparing to evacuate 22 people from three different villages of the district.

An SEOC official said a portion of the national highway between Jamnagar and Kalawar was blocked due to floods, while six state highways in Jamnagar, Amreli and Porbandar and 58 village roads in different districts were affected in the same manner.
