Ahmedabad
From next Tuesday, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is going to launch a campaign to remove the eggs and non-veg carts from the city’s roads. They are being removed from the main roads and public places on the ground that the public is complaining about them, as well as they hurt religious sentiments.

On Monday, Tyne Planning Committee chairman Devang Dani said that the authorities have been ordered to remove the egg and non-veg food carts located outside the main roads of the city, especially schools, colleges, religious places, parks, orchards etc.

This rule will be applicable to both licensed and non-licensed street food vendors. Municipal officials say that sellers of eggs and non-veg can do their business in the inner roads, streets etc. They just have to make sure that they are not visible to those passing through the main road.

When asked what are the other conditions for its sale in the inner streets and alleys, Dani said that all the raw material used in non-veg food should be covered. Fish, poultry and meat should be kept in closed containers.

In another important decision, the Town Planning Committee has said that those who have got a valid license to sell mutton will have to sell it at a closed place. Apart from this, mutton etc. cannot be hung on the shops by means of hooks. If this is not done then the shops selling mutton will be sealed.

Ahmedabad is the fourth city after Rajkot, Vadodara and Bhavnagar where the municipal corporation has given such special instructions. When Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel was asked about this, he said, ‘People can eat vegetarian or non-vegetarian food. The state government has no objection in this matter, but if their stalls or lorries obstruct the traffic, then the municipal corporation can remove them. Apart from this, the food items should be clean.
