Government’s immediate attention to the problem of container shortage: Sonowal

Mumbai, Nov 13 (PTI) Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said that the issue of container shortage is being addressed urgently and the problem will be definitely addressed.

Sonowal, who is on a one-day visit to the country’s main port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), said that a committee has been formed under the Additional Secretary of the Ministry, which includes representatives of other ministries, on the issue of shortage of containers.

Earlier, Sonowal reviewed the progress made at the port through public-private partnership initiatives.

He also participated in the ‘Bhoomi Pujan Ceremony’ of a project to concrete the road leading to the port. He also interacted with key stakeholders of JNPT.

“Lack of containers is a big issue… it is being addressed urgently and of course we are going to address it successfully,” he said.

It is noteworthy that in the midst of the Kovid-19 epidemic, exporters in India, including globally, have been facing a shortage of containers for some time. However, with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and shipping companies working together, the situation has improved to some extent.
