Government will not release full figures of industrial production for April

New Delhi, Jun 11 (PTI) The government has decided not to release the complete industrial production (IIP) figures for the month of April. The government has taken this step due to the lockdown implemented due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. Last year also in the same month the government did the same.

In June last year, the National Statistical Office (NSO) withheld full IIP figures due to the nationwide lockdown on factory production.

This year too, industrial production has been affected due to the restrictions imposed in various states due to the second wave of the pandemic. According to partial data released by NSO on Friday, the IIP (general index) in April this year stood at 126.6 points. The IIP was 54 marks in April, 2020 and 126.5 marks in April 2019.

Industrial production declined by 57.3 percent in April, 2020.

As per the partial data, the growth rate of IIP in April, 2021 has been 134 per cent over the same month last year due to lower base effect. But if compared with April, 2019, the growth rate of IIP has been stable.

This suggests that the initial revival in the economy has been hit by the second wave of the pandemic.

According to NSO, the index for mining, manufacturing and power sectors stood at 108, 125.1 and 174 points respectively in April, 2021. In terms of use-based classification, it stood at 126.7 points for primary goods, 82.4 for capital goods, 137.9 for intermediate goods and 134.8 for infrastructure/construction goods.
