Government will do road show plan for auction of coal blocks

New Delhi, Nov 22 (PTI) The government has planned to auction coal blocks in view of the shortage of dry fuel in the downstream areas. This will also help in increasing the revenue of the mining states.

The development assumes significance as the Coal Ministry has launched the third round of commercial coal mining for 88 coal mines last month.

The Coal Ministry is also planning to organize road shows in different parts of the country to inform about the amendments in laws and regulations and to increase the interest and participation of the private sector.

According to a notice from the Ministry of Coal, these road shows will be organized in Ranchi, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. To make this program a success, the Ministry will appoint a Program Management Partner.

The country has an estimated coal reserve of 350 billion tonnes. India ranks third in the world in terms of coal reserves. However, 25 per cent of the coal demand is still met through imports.
