Government launched Krishi Udan-Do scheme to promote transportation of agricultural products

New Delhi, Oct 27 (PTI) The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Wednesday launched Krishi Udan-II scheme. Under this, cargo infrastructure will be created at airports located in the Northeast, hilly and tribal areas to help farmers transport agricultural products.

The Center had launched Krishi Udan Yojana in September, 2020. Under this, air cargo operators are exempted from parking charges and ‘terminal navigation landing’ charges, etc.

The Center has now asked for complete waiver of airport charges at select airports even if the share of agricultural goods is reduced by 50 percent in the total weight under Krishi Udan-II.

The Center said that under this scheme, cargo terminals will be set up at airports in a phased manner. For example, in 2021-22 cargo terminals will be set up at airports in Agartala, Srinagar, Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Hubli, Imphal, Jorhat, Lilabari, Lucknow, Silchar, Tezpur, Tirupati and Tuticorin.

In 2022-23, cargo terminals will be set up at airports in Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Jharsuguda, Kozhikode, Mysore, Puducherry, Rajkot and Vijayawada.

Apart from this, under Krishi Udan-II, the government will encourage the states to reduce the sales tax on aviation fuel to one percent.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the Krishi Udan 2.0 scheme, saying that it aims to harness the huge potential of Indian agriculture with the ‘logistic’ help of the airline to double the income of farmers and take them towards the goal of making them self-reliant. .
