DRI officials have seized more than 80 kg of gold worth about Rs 40 crore, which was brought hidden in machinery parts at the Delhi airport. This information was given in an official statement released on Friday. Four foreign nationals have been arrested, the statement said. Including two South Korean nationals, a Chinese national and a Taiwanese national.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) issued a statement saying that in a subsequent operation, 5,409 kg of gold was seized from a Delhi-based jeweler which was smuggled into India in a similar manner. It said that the total seized gold weighs 85.535 kg which is worth around Rs 42 crore.
The DRI said that in an intelligence operation, several Indian and foreign nationals have been identified who are involved in smuggling gold from Hong Kong to India by air. “Four foreign nationals involved in smuggling activities have been arrested and are being questioned,” it said.
