gambhir on ajinkya rahane: ‘Luck is Rahane who is still in the team’, slams Gautam Gambhir’s vice-captain
Gautam Gambhir said that Ajinkya Rahane is very lucky that he is still a part of the Test team. Rahane is part of the team in the Test series against New Zealand starting on Thursday. In the absence of Virat Kohli, he will also captain the team in the first Test in Kanpur.
The former opener said that Rahane has been kept in the team despite his poor form because he has to captain the team in Kohli’s absence.
India has to play a two-Test series against New Zealand. Kohli, who is currently on a break, will not be with the team in the first Test at Green Park. He will join the team in the second Test starting December 3. Although there were earlier reports that Rohit Sharma would captain the team, but later Rohit was rested from the Test series.
Gautam Gambhir said these things while choosing the batting line-up of Team India for the first test match in Star Sports show ‘Game-plan’. Gambhir picked Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul as the opener and Shubman Gill to bat at number four.
“I would pick KL Rahul as the opener along with Mayank Agarwal as he opened the innings in England,” Gambhir said. With this, I will get Shubman Gill to bat at number four.
In his last 15 Test matches, Ajinkya Rahane has scored 644 runs at an average of 24.76. The 33-year-old batsman has been troubled a lot by both spinners and pacers. Rahane’s poor form is a matter of concern for Team India.
