The central government has announced a reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has described it as a Diwali gift of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The opposition party said that the price of petroleum products should be equal to the price of the UPA government in 2014.
