New Delhi, Jun 8 (PTI) The power ministry on Tuesday said that through energy efficiency-linked PAT (Perform, Achieve and Trade) scheme, 87 million tonnes of carbon (CO2) emissions could be reduced annually with energy savings of 17 million tonnes of oil equivalent. Has come

In addition, 56 billion units of electricity have been saved in 2020-21 through the star labeling scheme for appliances, the most popular program of energy efficiency. In rupee terms, this is a saving of over Rs 30,000 crore.

The PAT scheme has currently resulted in energy savings of about 17 million tonnes of oil equivalent and reduction in CO2 emissions by 870 million tonnes per annum, the ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, 13 sectors were brought under the ambit of the scheme by 2020. These are the areas where energy consumption is highest. This includes cement, iron and steel, fertilizers, thermal power plants, refineries, petrochemicals, railways and others.

The Ministry of Power, through its mandated Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), is taking measures to reduce carbon emissions through power saving measures in industries, installations and appliances/electric goods.

In this regard, the PAT scheme is an important program for large industries and establishments.

Under this, a mandatory target for energy saving is given to the targeted large units. Energy Saving Certificate is given to them in case of additional energy savings which is traded.

Apart from this, 56 billion units of electricity have been saved in 2020-21 through the Standard and Labeling (S&L) program being run to promote energy efficiency. In rupee terms, this is a saving of Rs 30,000 crore.

Not only this, about 46 million tonnes of CO2 emissions are being reduced every year due to this scheme.
