The firing took place in two buildings of the ‘Valley Transport Authority’ (VTA) at around 6.30 am. VTA provides bus, ‘light rail’ and other services in Santa Clara County.
Sheriff Laurie Smith of Santa Clara County said, “When our officers arrived at the scene, he was firing bullets.” Later he took his own life. ”
The condition of one person injured in the incident remains critical.
Law enforcement officials said the attacker has been identified as 57-year-old Mon Cassidy. He had been working for the VAT since 2012.
A sheriff’s spokesman said that the bomb disposal squad is conducting searches there in the wake of the possibility of explosive devices in the railway premises.
The dead include VTA employees, although authorities have not yet revealed their identities.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen said the shooting incident probably occurred during a meeting.
