No identity has been released.
A sheriff’s spokesman said shots were fired at a railyard in Silicon Valley on Wednesday, killing and injuring several people and killing the suspect.
The shooting took place at the Railroad Center adjacent to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department. It is a transit control center where trains are parked and a maintenance yard.
Davis said the victims included personnel from the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA).
The VTA provides bus, light rail and other transit services in Santa Clara County. The county is the largest in the Bay Area and is home to Silicon Valley.
San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo tweeted, “Our hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones in this horrific shooting.”
Governor Gavin Newsom said on Twitter that his office was in close contact with local law enforcers and the situation was being closely monitored.
Officials said experts from the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are at the crime scene.
