CSK vs RCB Highlights: Chennai Express beats Virat Kohli on RCB
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) topped the table with 14 points after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets in 11 balls in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Friday. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) invited Royal Challengers Bangalore to bat. RCB captain Virat Kohli (53) and young Devdutt Padikkal (70) put on a 111-run partnership for the first wicket but CSK managed to restrict them to 156 for six with their bowling.
CSK continued their winning streak by scoring 157 for four in 18.1 overs. This was CSK’s seventh win. At the same time, RCB, who lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous match, remained in third place with 10 points.
Openers Rituraj Gaikwad (38) and Faf du Plessis (31) started well for CSK as the team added 59 runs in the powerplay. But in the ninth over, Kohli took a brilliant catch of Gaikwad off Yuzvendra Chahal, which dealt the first blow to CSK. In the very next over, Glenn Maxwell was caught by Du Plessis trying to sweep the ball, as CSK lost two wickets for 78 runs in 10 overs. Moeen Ali (23 off 18 balls) hit a six in the next over, which made Chahal 11 runs in this over.
Ambati Rayudu also looked at him and took the ball for a six as CSK had 100 runs in 12 overs. But then Kohli took a simple catch of Moeen Ali off Harshal Patel’s off-cutter ball. Now Rayudu hit consecutive fours in the 16th over, but fell victim to Patel’s ball. He scored 32 runs in 22 balls with three fours and a six. Now Dhoni (11 not out) and Suresh Raina (17 not out) were at the crease. In the 17th over, Raina hit a four and then a six with poor fielding.
Now 12 runs were needed in 18 balls and both comfortably gave the team victory. Earlier, RCB scored 90 runs in the first 10 overs without losing a wicket, while in the next 10 overs, the team lost six wickets and added only 66 runs. Dwayne Bravo bowled brilliantly for CSK, taking three wickets for 24 runs, which included the wickets of Glenn Maxwell (11) and Harshal Patel (03) along with the wicket of Kohli. Shardul Thakur also took two wickets for 29 runs. Deepak Chahar took a wicket.
Coming from the attacking strategy in the Powerplay, Kohli started with two consecutive fours on Deepak Chahar as soon as he got on the field, adding 13 runs in the first over. In the fourth over, Padikkal sends Josh Hazlewood for a six at long off. Dhoni then put Shardul Thakur on the bowling in place of Deepak Chahar. RCB openers got off to a great start. He did not waste any ball and hit it for fours and sixes when given the opportunity. In the fifth over, Kohli hit a beautiful six off Shardul Thakur at deep midwicket as the team completed their 50 runs in 5.3 overs.
Kohli hit his fourth boundary in the last over of the powerplay, which helped the team score 55 runs in six overs. Both helped to score 90 runs in 10 overs. Padikkal completed his half-century in 35 balls with five fours and two sixes, as the team also completed its 100 runs. Kohli too soon scored a half-century in 36 balls with six fours and a six. But Dwayne Bravo ended the first wicket partnership of 111 runs.
Kohli hit a high shot trying to hit a six but it was not strong enough and Ravindra Jadeja, standing on the boundary line, did not make a mistake in catching it. Padikkal reached the pavilion after AB de Villiers (12) off the last two balls of Shardul Thakur’s 17th over. After this the team lost the wickets of Tim David, Maxwell and Harshal Patel.
