coal minister chairs parliamentary committee meeting to discuss jharia master plan
During the presentation it was told that the problem of fire and subsidence in the mining areas of Jharkhand’s Jharia coalfield was exposed due to unscientific mining before nationalisation. The area now falls under the leased areas of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a unit of Coal India.
A master plan was approved by the Government of India on 12 August 2009 to deal with the problem of fire, subsidence and rehabilitation in Jharia. Which had an implementation period of 10 years and a pre-implementation period of two years.
“The period of implementation ended in August, 2021,” the Coal Ministry said in a statement.
