However, the company said in a statement on Tuesday that the lifting of coal from its mines had increased to 54.4 million tonnes last month.
CIL said, “The offtake would have been even greater, but the company and its subsidiaries slowed down its operations due to the epidemic of more than 5,400 employees. Most of them were involved in frontline production and offshore operations. These employees also include contract workers. “
Despite this, CIL said that the company’s coal supply increased by 3.3 percent this year as compared to the April month of the previous financial year. It was 6.1 percent higher than the financial year 2019. CIL had the highest (60.7 million tonnes) coal lift in the year 2018-19.
The company said that out of 54.4 million tonnes of coal lift in April, the power sector raised 4.24 million tonnes, while the remaining 1.17 million tonnes of coal was lifted from the non-power sector.
