california shooting casualties: fierce firing in rail yard in america, killing eight people including sikh civilians – authorities identify eight dead in a shootout at a rail yard in california
US officials have identified eight people killed in a shootout at a California rail yard. One Sikh person is also among those killed. Eight people were killed in a shootout on Wednesday by a railwayyard employee. The employee then committed suicide. Incidents of mass murder have increased significantly this year in the US, which is suffering from the global epidemic of corona virus.
The firing took place in two buildings of the ‘Valley Transport Authority’ (VTA) at around 6.30 am on Wednesday. The VTA provides bus, light rail and other transit services in Santa Clara County. The county is the largest in the Bay Area and is home to Silicon Valley. Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith said, “When our officers arrived at the scene, he was firing bullets.” Later he took his own life. Most of the dead were long employed at the transit agency.
The coroner’s office in Santa Clara County identified the dead as Paul Megia (42), Tapatejadeep Singh (36), Adrian Balleja (29), Jose DeGesas Hernandez (35), Timothy Michael Romo (49), Michael Joseph Rudometkin (40), Abdulwahab as Alagamandan (63) and Lars Kepelper Lane (63). The condition of one person injured in the incident remains critical. They were working as bus and light rail operators, mechanics, linemen and assistant superintendents.
Bagga Singh, the brother of Tapatejip Singh’s relationship, said that Singh had been working as a light train driver for the last eight or nine years. He has a wife and two young children. Bagga said, ‘We have heard that he killed people selectively, but I do not understand why he killed him, because Tapatejdip had nothing to do with him.’ He said he was told that the attacker targeted some people and let others go.
San Jose City Councilman Raul Peralezzo regretted the incident, saying that Rudometkin, who was killed in the attack, was a close friend of his. Two law enforcement officials said the attacker has been identified as 57-year-old Mon Cassidy. Cassidy was employed at the VTA since 2012. Investigators did not explain why Cassidy carried out the attack. A sheriff’s spokesman said that the bomb disposal squad is conducting searches there in the wake of the possibility of explosive devices in the railway premises.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen said the shooting incident probably occurred during a meeting. Cassidy’s ex-wife Cecilia Nelms told ‘The Associated Press’ that Cassidy was of an angry nature and was also treated for being depressed. He told that Cassidy used to tell him that he wants to kill those who work at the workplace. Nelms said, “I never believed her.” California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed deep condolences on the incident.
